The Joiner Foundation has done so many wonderful projects over the years. Some have stayed, while others have come and gone. In this blog, I want to focus on three favorites, each one chosen by a member of the team. This should give you a deeper look into what we do and how we operate.
Project 1: Book Scholarship – The foundation began with this project. I wanted to do a scholarship, but I wanted to do more than just a yearly scholarship, so we added on other projects. The first year was my favorite because we were able to have phone interviews with some of the candidates. It was inspiring to hear everyone's story and their aspirations for the future. Year after year, we get amazing applicants and read fascinating and captivating essay responses. It is one of the things we look forward to.
Project 2: Art Party – We love hosting art parties with Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. We have done one every year since 2017. During the pandemic, we just donated art supplies and snacks. We usually do this project each November. We get Thanksgiving themed activities and children and their families come and go. We get to know them and enjoy doing arts and crafts with them. It is always such a special and beautiful time. From choosing activities to hosting, we truly love this project.
Project 3: Project Rejuvenate Earth – Cleaning up local Atlanta is a favorite that we usually do around Earth Day. We've done this each year. Last year, we had some people come out and help, which was wonderful. People in the area tend to get involved when they see us cleaning up. They are always so encouraging and helpful. We get to know people in the neighborhood while doing a good deed. Building community is something that we aspire to do wherever we go. The supplies are usually donated by a member of the organization, and then volunteers can just show up and get what they need. It's usually such an easy project.
While we have many amazing projects, these are some of our favorites that have been with us since the beginning of time. These projects build bonds amongst the members of the organization and the community. I hope this gives you more of an idea about what we do.
