Congratulations to our first Adolphus Dixon Book Scholarship recipient (2017), Ms. Troytoria Wade. She is an exceptional young woman! She is a 2017 graduate of Booker T. Washington High School in Atlanta, Ga, and a freshman at Albany State University. Troytoria hopes to become a vet. Though she has faced adversity in her life, she has not let it stop her from being the industrious person that she is today. Congrats and best wishes Troytoria!
Congratulations to Kennedee Little, the 2019 Scholarship recipient of the Adolphus Dixon Book Scholarship. “I’m an 18 year old graduating senior at Hillgroove High School located in Powder Springs, GA. I will graduate in May 2019. At Hillgroove I have participated in a number of organizations to include Art Club,
Marching Band, and Concert Band. Additionally, I have received a number of honors to include being placed on the Honor Roll and induction into the National Honor’s Society. In the fall, I plan to matriculate at Savannah College of Art and Design located in Savannah, GA where I will pursue a degree in Sequential Art.
Congratulations to Gabrielle Ragesdale, our first Hattie Watson Book Scholarship recipient (2019). Gabrielle Ragesdale was born and raised in Decatur, Ga. She currently attends Georgia State University, majoring in Studio Art with a concentration in Drawing, Painting, & Printmaking. Her ultimate goal is to become a multimillionaire and entrepreneur with dreams of creating generational wealth, while leaving her mark on her community through her creativity and service.
Congratulations to our 2020 Adolphus Dixon Book Scholarship Recipient, Jasmine Freeman! Jasmine is a senior at Dutchtown High School in Hampton, Georgia. She has served in Student Government as Sophomore Class treasurer and Overall Treasurer. She's also a member of Girls Going Global, Girls Who Rule the world, 21st Century Leaders, and Tabernacle of Praise Missions Team. She enjoys international travel and service and dancing. Jasmine plans to attend Spelman College or Kennesaw State University to major in biology and minor in international relations and women’s and gender studies.
Congratulations to our 2020 AD/HW Combined Scholarship recipient, Mikalah Thomas! Mikalah is a 4th year Business Administration major with a concentration in Marketing at The Georgia Institute of Technology. During her time at Tech, she has served as the Co-founder and Co-president of her school’s Her Campus chapter, an online magazine dedicated to and written by women. Outside of the classroom, Mikalah enjoys spending her free time reading, watching Netflix, and spending time with friends.
Congratulations to our 2021 AD/HW Combined Mini Scholarship recipient, Aaron McNair! He is our first male to win. Aaron is an 18 year old from Lawrenceville, Ga. He will be attending Morehouse College as a Pre-Med student this fall. He wants to become a neurologist. He has always been a gifted/honor student and, when he's not hitting the books, he also enjoys sports, like wrestling. He is also from a God-fearing and serving family, and he's an active member of Holy Fellowship COGIC in Snellville, Ga.
Congratulations to our 2021 Hattie Watson Book Scholarship recipient, Makayla Fisher. Makayla was born and raised in Orlando, Fl. She attends Florida International University as a Psychology major on a Pre-Med track. During her time at FIU, Makayla served as the co-founder and Vice President of FIU’s chapter of iCure Health, a club focused on raising awareness of preventable diseases and appropriate screening measures to the community. She hopes to gain admission to medical school at a Florida university in the upcoming application cycle, in pursuit of a dream of becoming an Anesthesiologist in the future!
