Shopping, but Make it Sustainable

Fall has arrived! The air is crisp and leaves are decoratively painting the ground in shades of red and yellow. With the change in season comes a change in wardrobe for some of us. If you are anything like me, you might have spent the prior months organizing your clothes and donating items that no longer fit or suit your style. A fashionable friend of mine once told me it’s always good to go through your clothes every six months. You’d be surprised at how many articles of clothing are just laying around collecting dust and could be passed on to someone else. Don’t be afraid to let go of that sweater you never wear, or the dress you wore time and forgot all about. Change is good, especially when it leads to a shopping spree!

One of my favorite places to find new pieces for my closet is the thrift store. Not only are you likely to find a piece that is unique and owned by few people, you’re also helping the environment by recycling and upcycling clothing. There are so many gems on the racks of thrift stores. You just have to take your time and carefully browse. I’ve come across a few designer and well known clothing brands that are still hanging in my closet today! Well known thrift shops include Goodwill, The Salvation Army, and Plato's Closet; However, there are always independently owned thrift stores within almost every city and town that could use support, and offer a wider variety of exquisite clothing and accessories.

Essentially, the weather is cooling down, which means shopping lists are getting longer. Make your shopping spree more sustainable by stopping your local thrift stores and copping a few pieces.
