Post-grad can be a very exciting and confusing time as you truly prepare to navigate adulthood and life after undergrad. There are plenty of options that one can take, which can be overwhelming. Let's navigate a few of those options together.
Gap Year - Sometimes, we need a break. That's perfectly fine. Don't feel obligated to rush into anything. Take time to figure out what you want and get into a good head space before taking any big steps. What should you do in the meantime? Travel. Well, maybe not now since we're in the middle of a pandemic, but any other time, yes. Teach abroad. Work at a camp. Volunteer (some of which can be done safely from home - try the "Be My Eyes" app). Work on your passion project or something you didn't have time to do during school. Take a few classes without fully committing to school or a program. Study a new language. Work. There are plenty of things you can do and these are some ways you can still enhance your resume and increase your skills.
Grad School - If you've decided to pursue higher and further education, then good on you! If you're preparing for a grad program, figure out what you want to study and research programs that are known for your area of study. Decide whether you want to stay in the state you're in or change schools. Look for funding. Get your recommendation letters ready. Start studying for the GRE (if your program requires this). Look at all of the program requirements and start writing your essays. Utilize your communication center for help on these essays.
Job/Career - Secure the bag. Maybe you have offers you're about to take. Maybe you are searching, which can be difficult in these times. If you're on the hunt, set up a schedule for applying. For example, maybe you want to spend an hour each day looking and applying.
I've heard a lot of people say that they feel imposter syndrome going into a new chapter. Give yourself time to adjust, don't be afraid to ask for help, and know that you are wildly capable and brilliant. You would not have gotten whatever opportunity you decide to pursue if you weren't. Also, this is your journey. Make sure you enjoy it and make decisions that are best for you. Happy post-college journey. Buckle up, it's a crazy ride.
