Being a Young Professional

Professionalism, as defined by Oxford Languages on Google, is the competence or skill expected of a professional. It is key to getting to where you'd like to be as a young high school or college student and throughout life. Professionalism involves networking, attire, building relationships, and more. Here are some ways to ensure your success as a professional.

Update you email address: If you're listed as pookiebear123 on yahoo, it may be time to update your email address. Have something like your first and last name and birth year or initials, something like that. It's the best way to ensure success in the professional world, it tells the reader who they're speaking to (not that this excuses you from listing your name in the actual email) and it looks nice and clean.

Use LinkedIn: This is a great website for networking, finding jobs, making connections, etc. Get connected with people on a professional level from school and dream companies. Put your best self and best foot out there. Keeping the page updated and putting time and energy into connections will help you in the long run, trust me.

Network/Build Relationships: I've written a blog about this before. Network, network, network. I have seen how networking and building relationships (and maintaining those relationships) can pay off in the long run. Maintaining relationships is major, so don't forget that part. You cannot expect to say "hello" to someone once and then ask for help later on. Make sure you pour into relationships. What you put in, you'll get out.

Clean up your socials: Lots of people do check socials, so always be mindful of what you put on the internet and on your page in general. Make sure you're putting your best foot forward. Rule of thumb, if you have to ask whether or not it's appropriate or second guess it, or if grandma would not approve it, then it probably is no the best thing to put out there.

These are a few steps, but I suggest looking into professionalism and learning more in order to go out there and really shine in the professional world. You've got this!
